Ariana is the first bi racial (half-black and half-Japanese) winner of Miss Universe Japan pageant. After graduating from a local school in Japan, she went to the United States for her studies. In the USA, she studied and worked as a bartender. In 2015, Ariana won the title of Miss Nagasaki and represented her administrative division. Last year’s winner, who also represented Nagasaki, Keiko Tsuji, was unable to attend the coronation night because she are sick.
Shortly before the final votes of the judges were tallied and before millions in the television audience phoned
in their preferences, two of the pageant's judges voiced their disapproval, because they think that Miyamoto is not a good option. The judges were disciplined because the reasons of those judges were estimated as
racists. One of judges saying that "a black girl cannot be Miss Japan. It´s not in the rules",´and the other asking,
"What has she got to do with Japan? She's not Asian".
Responding to the racist judges , Miyamoto told a reporter: "I know that I don't represent Japanese beauty,
but they elected me, so what am I supposed to do refuse?".
The world press took notice of the ensuing debate among Japaneses about not only who could or should
represent the Japanese women in a beauty pageant, but about how the growing foreign, darker-skinned population, was affecting
the course of Japanese society and culture.
Ariana will compete at the next Miss Universe pageant. The 64th Annual Miss Universe pageant, to be held in a yet to be disclosed venue. The Colombian Paulina Vega, Miss Universe 2014, will crown her successor at the end event.
